I run a household with kids & animals & last time I checked - I NEVER RAN A FREAKIN PORT! We are all armchair politicians and SURELY could run the country better than anyone, but WE DON'T! It is fun to discuss this situation that I never knew existed (hence the ignorant) and research it so I can make up my own dang mind. But regardless of what I think, it won't change a thing. Wednesday Hero

This weeks Wednesday Hero was submited by Greta. Also, I couldn't find a picture of him.
PFC David Alexander is a former lineman of the NFL's Washington Redskins who decided that he wanted to become a member of an Army of One through the United States Army Reserve. However, he exceeded the maximum age for entry into the Army Reserve. The maximum entry age is 40; PFC Alexander was a few months shy of his 41st birthday. In support of PFC Alexander's goal, the CG, USAREC(United States Army Recruiting Command) requested an age exception, which was granted on 8 July 2005 by the DMPM(Director of Military Personnel Management). PFC Alexander shipped on 20 September 2005 to Ft Leonardwood for One Station Unit Training (OSUT) in MOS 21B (Combat Engineer). During a follow-up on this Soldier, the company commander stated the Soldier arrived in top physical condition, is a top notch Soldier, and is in the Top 5% of his company. He further stated that PFC Alexander has been in a leadership role from day one, setting an example for his younger peers. The company commander had nothing but laudatory comments about this new Soldier. Upon completion of all training, PFC Alexander was named the honor graduate of both Basic Training and Advanced Individual Training (AIT). PFC Alexander completed IET(Initial Entry Training) on 3 February 2006 and returned to his Army Reserve unit for duty. He is assigned to the 367th Engineer Battalion, Manakato, Minnesota. PFC Alexander's performance and stamina is an example of how conditioning and determination prevails and refutes any notion that older Soldiers will struggle during IET.
These brave men and women risk their lives so that others may enjoy the freedoms we get to enjoy everyday. For that, I am proud to call them Hero.

Hello blogging friends,

Within the next week, Hooahwife will be moving to http://hooahwife.com. I have gone through quite a few blog changes over this past year, but so has just about every blogger.

There are now other contributirs on Hooah Wife (and friends) as I like to keep things fresh:
1. Silke - a longtime friend, West Point graduate, former soldier & army hooah wife (hubby currently deployed), who is left of center politically
2. Indian Chris - a half-breed Cherokee Okie who leans far to the right & loves his Country. He also has his own blog
3. Brainhell - He leans way to the left, is a little eccentirc, living with ALS & loves to debate. He has his own blog as well. He will be providing us with his Opfor series when he has time.

For the new blog, I would love to add some real (the ones there now I made up) "what our readers think about Hooah Wife" quotes on the sidebar. My hopes would be to gather a large group of quotes so I can rotate them!

As we are working diligently here at the Perry house on hubby's resume and interview questions. Honesty, trust and approachability were what I listed as his best attributes. My parents still haven't forgiven him for not letting me move any of my belongings with his household goods before we were married (well maybe they have).

To get to the point of the title, on the radio today I heard THIS breaking story, the CEO for Radio Shack telling quite a few lies to pad, or should I say - imagine up his resume. Dang - I could use a new phone - maybe hubby could slip into that job (LOL) & then maybe I'd get to meet Howie Long too! Must pick Michael Bates's brain about some lying with politicians in Tulsa.

Sunday is Buy my Soldier an Interview Suit Day!

I used to be a PE teacher & athletic trainer,then for a short bit I did orthopedic sales. The boss asked me to wear a suit to report to work. My reply was, "I have lots of sweat suits." A few hundred dollars later, I was wearing proper "monkey" suits & quickly traded those in for sweats again.

Tomorrow I take hubby to buy his "interview suits." My soldier is (almost)43 years old and never wore a suit (besides the double breasted, short waisted 80's suit & the "Korean specials" that magically shrank in the closet, Class A's, Dress Mess & Dress Blues)to work. We will not be heading to Marlowe White (where soldiers get most their dress stuff) or AAFEs Clothing Sales. I should get a personal defibrillator machine for the "sticker shock" he will get!

Burlington Coat Factory, Men's warehouse, DSW shoes...here we come.

He tried to convince me that if he stripped all the stuff off his class A's, he could wear that for a suit - very funny! Wish me luck! Hooah!

Feb. 13 - On the 197th birthday of Charles Darwin, ministers at several hundred churches around the country preached yesterday against recent efforts to undermine the theory of evolution, asserting that the opposition many Christians say exists between science and faith is false...The event, called Evolution Sunday, is an outgrowth of the Clergy Letter Project, started by academics and ministers in Wisconsin in early 2005 as a response to efforts, most notably in Dover, PA., to discredit the teaching of evolutionary theory in public schools.

Feb. 14 - The Ohio Board of Education voted 11 to 4 Tuesday to toss out a mandate that 10th-grade biology classes include critical analysis of evolution and an accompanying model lesson plan, dealing the intelligent design movement its second serious defeat in two months.

"Darwin's theory is antireligious." - Not true. Many people of faith, including scientists, find no conflict between evolution and their religion. They believe that evolution is the process through which God creates life (also known as theistic evolution).

"Darwin's theory is inherently racist." - Not true. The theory of evolution by means of natural selection is no more a justification for racism than the theory of gravity is justification for pushing someone off a cliff. Scientific laws of nature have no inherent moral implications.

I would point out that the two arguments above have nothing to do with scientific proof against evolution. What it does show is that many oppose evolution not because of its scientific flaws, but because of a perceived cultural and moral threat.

"Evolution is a theory not a fact." - It's both. Biological evolution is a change in the genetic characteristics of a population over time. That this happens is a fact. Biological evolution also refers to the common descent of living organisms from shared ancestors. The evidence for historical evolution (genetic, fossil, anatomical, etc.) is so overwhelming that it is also considered a fact. The Theory of evolution describes the mechanisms that cause evolution. So evolution is both a fact and a theory.

"Darwin's theory has never been proven." - Not true. The word "theory" in no way implies uncertainty in the scientific community. On the contrary, in this case "theory" means a statement of what are held to be the general laws, principles, or causes of something known or observed. Any honest scientist will tell you that nothing can ever be proven with 100% certainty, not even something that is considered a fact (even though the evidence in favor of it is so overwhelming that there is very little doubt anymore). Evolution is as well supported by evidence as the theory of gravity or the heliocentric theory of our solar system. Darwin's theory remains the cornerstone of modern biology and it increases our understanding of issues of major importance to society, including research into virulent new diseases as well as genetics.

"Intelligent design (ID) is a valid alternative to evolution and should be taught." - Not true. Intelligent design holds that certain features of the universe and of living things are best explained by an intelligent cause, not an undirected process such as natural selection. Intelligent design is not a scientific theory. Supernaturalism is not included within science because it is untestable. By introducing the supernatural we undermine the very basis for empirical testing. To teach and therefore accept ID we would be allowing all empirical investigation to stop, for scientists would have a ready-made answer for everything. As one scientist recently put it. "In the spirit of balance and fairness, ID proponents would like to weaken the coverage of evolution to the point that we risk raising a generation of young people so mistrustful of science that they turn their backs on the scientific community and abandon science as a way of knowing about the world and improving the human condition." Best Firefox Extension Ever

Okay, everyone who's switched over to Firefox from IE has most likely come across the one thing IE has that FF doesn't. Stored cache. When FF has to close for what ever reason, crash or power goes out, you loose information that's been stored in the cache. And for those of us still on dial-up it's a nightmare. Having to load EVERY page again. Well, here's the answer. Cache Saver. It keeps the cache from being deleted when FF crashes. You should check it out. There is one complaint though. For some reason it doesn't save the page(s) you have open at the time of the crash. I don't know why.

When I was taking gymnast son to the ER on Sunday I bumped a POS (piece of shit) truck in the parking lot. I left a note because I am an honest person. If I didn't leave a note - he wouldn't have noticed. Got the call from him today for $1500 in damage. This car didn't have a back window - give me an f-n break! Now I have to call Geico and get insurance involved, pay $500 which wasn't budgeted for the month - have my insurance go up - just so this guy can fix his POS!!!

Wednesday Heroes

Rather I'm going to profile the victims of Saddam Hussein. Think about all the news reports we get about this trial. What are every one of them about? Only one thing. Saddam Hussein's latest ourburst. That's it. The reports talk about how his outbursts could overshadow the testimony of his victims, then they proceeded to ignore that testimony to talk about the outbursts. Guess they're right. Well, I wanted to highlight some of that testimony. These people were able not only to survive the absolute worst things the human mind could imagine, but they were able to go into that court room and tell their stories knowing full well that they could be killed by Saddam loyalists. They are heroes. Sad thing is I could only find a few articles that have printed some of this testimony, because as I've said the pieces focus more on the circus than the victims. Some of this is a little harsh and could be too much for some. Just letting you know.

The turbulent proceedings included the first confrontation in open court between Saddam and some of his government's victims. Two men from the farming village of Dujail described the harsh collective punishment meted out to the village and its people after shots were fired on Saddam's car from a nearby orchard in 1982.

"It was like a war front in Dujail," said the first witness, Ahmad Hassan Mohammed, who was 15 at the time. The government bombed the fields, shot some suspects and rounded up men, women and children, Mr. Mohammed said. He and others spent more than three years in prison.

At times choking back tears, Mr. Mohammed described how seven of his brothers were executed, and how they were all interrogated and tortured. One brother was tortured with electric shock in front of his father, he said, sobbing.

"They knew who was most beloved by his father. They took him, 16 years old. Before my father, they beat him. Then they said: "Kill him.'"

Mr. Mohammed was followed to the witness stand by Jawad Abdul Aziz Jawad, who was 10 at the time of the assassination attempt. He described how giant bulldozers descended on the village three months after the shooting, ripping through farms and plowing over houses.

The prosecution's first witness was a 14-year-old boy in 1982. The witness said members of Saddam's regime used electric shocks on their victims, and poured melted plastic onto people's skin. He said that's how Saddam's men killed and tortured people following a 1982 assassination attempt against Saddam.

Later taken to a room that was "all red' with another girl, the witness said they used their shoes as pillows to get some rest.

"We put shoes as pillows. Then the door was locked and from a small window they gave us two loaves of bread," said the woman, who was asked by the judge but could not identify her tormentors.

"My youth ... was destroyed," said the woman recalling the legacy of her experiences. Today she described herself as a housewife.

Ahmed Hassan Mohammed, a resident of Dujail, told the court how he and others -- including women and children -- were rounded up and transported to intelligence headquarters in Baghdad, where they were tortured. The women, including young girls, were raped, sometimes before the eyes of the men, he said.

He named his torturers and their relations to the defendants on trial and graphically and tearfully described what he saw.

Of one man, Mohammed said: "They broke him. Broke his arm, his leg. This is during torture. They also shot at his foot, all of that during interrogation. He died under torture. They broke all his body parts."

Mohammed described seeing Hussein's half brother and co-defendant, Barzan Ibrahim al-Tikriti, wearing a cowboy hat, red boots and carrying an assault rifle.

My parents (liberals) still watch CNN, read the Boston Globe & Time Magazine. I am sure they will get carried away with this whole shooting thing and won't even notice that Al Gore committed treason. Isn't that the agenda of the media - use the news to promote their "agenda" and they really do have one! Sorry folks, but when former Presidents (Carter & Clinton included) go overseas and spew hate for their country and create anti-American sentiment, they fuel one more whacko to maybe want to do harm to a soldier. TREASON!!!

On the other hand, lovers exchange chocolate hearts. They become disillusioned, thinking that on that night, instead of performing the act of sex, they will delve into the art of making love. I've never been good at posts like this. I'm not the best at putting words and thoughts down, but I'm going to give it my best shot. I want to talk a little about this whole "domestic spying" and FISA thing and why I feel President Bush didn't break the law. I mean, it's actually kind of simple. In 1978 FISA(Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act) was enacted. It states that a warrant must be obtained within 72 hours after the intercept has taken place. However, President Bush doesn't claim that his ordering of intelligence through wiretaps is authorized under FISA. Instead, he maintains that his authority comes from the U.S. Constitution. And the 4th Court of Appeals, in 1977, agreed saying

"the executive branch has the 'inherent authority' to wiretap enemies such as terror plotters and is excused from obtaining warrants when surveillance is 'conducted 'primarily' for foreign intelligence reasons.'"

And if anyone has any actual proof that anyone other than known terror suspects outside the country were wiretapped I would love to see it. Seeing as how no one actually knows who was tapped because no information has been released as of yet. Sure, there are stories from people who say they've been tapped but have no proof. But in today's political climate and accusation is just as good as solid proof.

I told you I wasn't very good at posts like this. If I were smarter it would be full of facts and long winded speeches and such, but, as you can clearly see, it's not. It's very basic and to the point.

Typically on Monday, I like to start the week with some light humor or a comic. In the spirit of Silke's weekend tribute & debate over Darwin, I thought I would keep it going this Monday. Oh yes, I am even writing this post on Sunday night just to mess things up a bit! It is soooo dang cold here, I hope to be hibernating in bed in the AM with a cup of coffee while the kids get themselves ready for school. Monday morning Mommy break. I earned it with a little trip to the ER with gymnast son today. Next time he won't do a running jump to get on his chin-up bar & land on his head & elbow. He is fine & straightened his arm that he totally convinced me he couldn't straighten out when the ER personnel asked him to do it - UGH!!!! Charles Darwin was the most influential naturalist of the 19th century. Following his graduation from divinity school Darwin secured a position as ship's naturalist aboard the H.M.S. Beagle. During a five-year (1831-1836) voyage around the world, Darwin noticed how species changed along the coast of South America, and especially on the Galapagos islands. Reflecting on his observations, Darwin developed a theory of evolution.

Though aspects of his theory of evolution by the mechanism of natural selection continue to be debated in the scientific community, Darwin's principal thesis remains central to modern scientific thought. It transformed our understanding of the living world, much as the ideas of Galileo, Newton and Einstein revolutionized our understanding of the physical universe. Darwin stated this theory in his book The Origin of Species (1859). In another book called The Descent of Man (1871) he specifically addressed the evolution of the human species. Both books sparked worldwide controversy.

Why his theory still matters: According to the United States National Academy of Sciences, biological evolution is "the most important concept in modern biology - a concept essential to understanding key aspects of living things." It provides a framework for organizing and interpreting observations and for making predictions. Yet despite its significance in the life sciences and because of its perceived threat to traditional social values Darwin's theory has come under increasing attack in our school systems. It has resulted in a society in which many cannot distinguish the difference between evolution as a fact (that all species have descended with modification over time from common ancestors - a claim supported by such overwhelming evidence that it is accepted a true) and the process held to explain this fact (evolution by means of natural selection).

We do our children a disservice when we bow to political pressure and agree to "teach the controversy" in science classes. The scientific principles behind evolution can be confusing enough, but it is even more so when intelligent design and creationist proponents falsely imply Darwin's theory is inconsistent with a belief in God. Darwin's theory has real practical applications. It helps us decipher our genes, fight viruses and understand the Earth's fossil record. By marginalizing it in our schools we threaten future scientific contributions.

During the tyrannical era of Saddam's rule, the structure of water supply for the neighboring cities of Baghdad was permitted to decay. This forced 300,00 residents to get their water from nearby canals. A practice that was dangerous, for not only health reasons, i.e. filthy water in the canals caused severe intestinal outbreaks, but also those who went to the canals were in constant danger of being shot at by the insurgents.

The Iraqi government took the directive in planning and organizing these projects, proving how far they have come in terms of having the ability to lead their towns, cities and ultimately their own nation. The local leaders in cooperation with the 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 101st Airborne Division engineer project office made the restoration of water a priority. A top priority that brought with it the good news, which is now pouring, forth from this region, and due to the recent drop in insurgent activity it allowed such projects like this one to be completed ahead of schedule.

This major repair project took place in three stages, restoring the Kaa Kaa Water Treatment facility, the renovation of the SheShibar Booster Station, which pumps and routes the water to various locales and lastly the repairing of the broken feeder line, which had been ruptured when the insurgents detonated an improvised explosive device.

Furthermore, in the town of Al Muhawil, located about 54 miles south of Baghdad, a new water treatment plant opened recently. Mayor Hussein Jabor, of Al Muhawil and Captain Brian McCarthy, commander, Troop B, 1st Squadron, 10th Cavalry Regiment, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 4th Infantry Division began working together a couple of years ago along with other coalition forces and the Iraqi citizens to help meet the needs of those in the communities and towns. With the ribbon cutting ceremony now fulfilled one million cubic liters of water are pumping through the Al Muhawil station on a daily basis. Currently as plans move forward, a similar project will be concluded on the other side of town later this year, which will, "bring clean drinking water to more than 20,000 residents for the first time in many years," according to Captain McCarthy. Add to this good news, the fact that clean water will benefit farmers, and a healthy agricultural industry creates a stronger economy. Such a simple everyday need has far-reaching positive accomplishments.

It appears to be a worldwide belief that the only thing coalition forces do is patrol the streets or track down terrorists, but what our forces have and are achieving reaches far beyond our limited view. According to Mayor Jabor, "People need to see the progress being made. They need to know that we're taking care of the future of Iraq. Soon, our security forces will allow us to live and prosper all over this great country of ours."

Our praise goes out to the new Iraqi government and to the ingenuity of the fellow coalition forces for working hard to provide clean and safe water for the Iraqi citizens. A precious commodity that we take for granted here, now flows forth freely, to be enjoyed straight from the tap- streaming into a waiting glass.

Armor Problems?

First I read it on Soldier's Angel, then this article today, so what is the deal? What I am trying to get to the bottom of here, on this pathetic little blog is, are our soldiers without proper protection?

Hubby said that when he was in Iraq, he felt and thought all the vehicles were properly equipped. I have read quotes from soldiers that said if they wore any more body armor they wouldn't be able to move. I know Silke's hubby is well protected or she would be the first one to send him something. I guess I'm not sure if there is any truth to all this "we need more armor on our vehicles & self" cry or if this is a media driven phenomenon???

When I choose friends, I choose friends with my value and class standards (high) . Why can't "grownups" who want to impose their views on this country get that? I am "one" of the American people and am appalled with the lack of class displayed yesterday at Mrs. King's funerals. Did everyone forget the basic lessons their mother taught them about what is appropriate & what isn't? Yes, personal character outside of politics does matter to me. I like Giuliani but did we all forget he was cheating on his wife when he was in office? Does publicly being rude to your "mixed" company & showing you are disrespectfu, impress others? - the answer is NO!!! As a mom, I feel like punishing and taking away privileges from people who act worse than my kids when I punish them! Now go to your room Jimmy Carter & think about how you behaved & don't come out until you are ready to apologize!

Correta Scott King's Funeral Turns Into Bush Bash

Was anyone else saddened to see yet another funeral turn into a anti-Bush Democratic rally? First it was the funeral for Paul Wellstone and now this. Really show what kind of people Democrats really are. Also show what kind of man Bush is. He knew going into this that people would take shots at him, yet he swallowed his pride and did what was right. He's a better man than I. A women, who along with her husband, preached the message of love and tolerance being "honored" by people who're full of hatred. I'm sure she and her husband would be proud. Sad day.

Explaining world politics & being Jewish to my 9 year old

I have been listening to the news lately and probably need to explain some things to my 9 year old. He is very inquisitive and one of those kids that will pick up on the topic of the talk radio in the car while the other kids look out the window.

When I was a little girl growing up - some "older kids down the street" told me to run home and tell my parents they were f-n Jews. That was my first lesson in what was to be a long life of listening and dealing with hate because of my heritage. I have never denied my heritage and proudly embrace it without putting others down. Due to my mixed-marriage scenario - I have failed in the proper Jewish upbringing of my children, but make sure they know that they are fortunate to be born into such a special group of people.

Here goes my explanation to him:

There are so many special people in the world, born into different cultures, societies and locations. We are fortunate we were born in this country, have so many wonderful things and have the freedom to be and do what we want.

There are places in the world where you are born into a situation where you can't be free. You are told how to behave and if you don't follow the rules - many bad things can happen to you. The kids in these places grow up with the only way they know and sometimes they are also brought up to hate other people. They are taught to hate other people because of the way they look, what they believe, or simply where they live. They can even hate little babies born into a different life than theirs, just because they are different.

We are in a war and may be fighting wars in the world for the rest of our lives because other people hate so much. The United States wants all the other countries on the world to be nice and not hate, but that is impossible. We have soldiers in countries such as Iraq and Afghanistan so we can get the bad people that were in power and made all the rules to go away and let the people of the Country decide how they want to live their lives.

The people that we helped remove from power aren't happy about us being involved and try to show that they are still in control by blowing things up and setting things on fire. They figure if they make everyone scared of them, they will get power back.
So that is why soldiers, like Daddy spend time in Iraq - to help those little babies have a chance to grow up and not hate other people just because,

As for nuclear weapons & weapons of mass destruction (one in the same for what you need to know), they are very bad things that can hurt a large group of people and maybe even make them die at one time. We (the US) don't want the people that hate to get a hold of these things because they will use them on little babies just because they are different. So when the US goes into war, it is to protect lots of people and make the world a better place. Israel, it is the land of our people. Many of the people that hate so much, hate everyone who is born in Israel, just because they are born there. If the bad people could, they would like to destroy all the people that live in Israel - just because they hate. The US and Israel are friends and we try and protect them because it is a small country and they are a special people and live in a place that is special to lots of people.

That is the world in a nutshell son, be proud of who you are!

Normally I don't write a lot about this subject. It is very disturbing and seems like we will never see the light at the end of the tunnel with this group. Kind of like seeing peace between Israel & Palestine - I hope I see it in my lifetime. I am writing to this in reference to the Danish Embassy in Damascus being set ablaze because of a comic cartoon. This seems like the most juvenile reason in the world to get someone's panties (or turban) in such a ruffle. But this is the mentality we are up against. A few questions turning in my little brain:

Does freeing the majority of a culture while the dangerous minority continues to run amok, set the world up for failure?

Is there any reasoning with years and perpetual cycles of hate?

Will allowing the women some freedom change the mentality of the men?

Will educating the young on cultural tolerance change the mentality?

Does poverty & oppression cause this hate?

I went out to dinner with the 4 active duty Army families in Tulsa last night. Major Bob is heading off to Afghanistan today for an 8 month tour. His wonderful wife will be left behind to tend to the house and many critters. He told me he would e-mail me when he gets there with items that he needs and also the local orphanage. I told him I would start an "adoptabob" campaign during his deployment so we can shower him with stuff! Godspeed my friend!

"The Party of Reactionary Inertia"

This op-ed at the Washington Times makes an interesting point. When the Democrats applauded President Bush's statement at the SOTU that Congress had failed to pass Social Security reform - they showed themselves as "the party of reactionary inertia."

as the party that not only doesn't have any solutions to today's dangers and problems, but denies that such problems exist - the Democrats on the floor of the House Tuesday night demonstrated a flawless, intuitive sense of its new, dysfunctional self.

The Democrats' wild applause on behalf of doing nothing was more than a merely tactical political blunder. It displayed a deeper truth about them.

If one recalls, last year the official position of the Democratic Party was not only that they opposed President Bush's Social Security reform. They also argued there was no crisis - no major problem that required rectification.

President Bush deserves credit for at least trying to address the problem last year and making it one of his top priorities. I admit I'm not familiar with the details of his proposals and I'm certainly in no position to judge what would or would not fix Social Security, but it would seem that doing nothing is not a solution. The fact that the Democratic Party takes pride in this is disgraceful.

No Diagnosis is Good News?

Sometimes it takes being a PITA to get things done. I finally found the insurance loophole and was in the process of TriScare (military insurance)authorizing another Infectious Disease doc because they have to grant me an appointment within 28 days - not 6 weeks like I was told. Then I got a call from the original doc with the 6 week wait, saying that they had a cancellation TODAY and could see me ASAP. I personally think they were tired of me calling (the squeaky wheel).

Anyhoo, I got in to see him. He was thorough and took his time. He said this is going to be one of those cases where I may or may not get closure. All the obvious really bad stuff was ruled out and here is the official summary:

I caught something back in November when I thought I had viral meningitis and am having rebound viral reactions. In other words, my body is actually fighting itself because my immune system is so efficient. They wouldn't prescribe me cyclosporine like a transplant patient and hopefully the symptoms will subside.

So until it subsides or I get worse (hopefully the first thing), I may have to just deal with the symptoms, lay low, take naps and drink lots of coffee. One more viral blood test is pending that may provide some closure, otherwise you will all have to continually listen to me piss and moan!

The Mystery Illness Saga cont'd...

For those of you cyber medical sleuths that have been trying to help me figure out the now 3 month old mystery illness...here is the update. My SED rate came back yesterday as 51 on a scale from 1-35. The frequency of the daily low grade fevers continues. My Greta energy level remains low, esp. when the fever comes. I'm down 12 pounds (pre child bearing weight-yay). I have my infectious disease appointment March 15th (yep 6 weeks away).

Lance Cpl. Eric Orlowski was a proud Marine, but above all he was a proud father of his 3-year-old daughter, CamerynLee. "He was always there for his daughter, and he loved her more than anything," said Nicole Kross, the child's mother, herself an Air Force Reservist.

Eric Orlowski, a reservist assigned to a Marine tank battalion, died on his first deployment. He was killed March 22 in an accidental discharge of a machine gun. Orlowski was separated from his wife, but their daughter kept them close. He sent Kross letters from overseas, the last saying he was headed for Iraq. "I don't think he was scared," Kross said. "The thing he feared most was leaving his daughter."

These brave men and women have given their lives so that others may enjoy the freedoms we get to enjoy everyday. For that, I am proud to call them Hero.

Watching The President now and must say that I am pretty darn impressed. No surprises - and he sounds pretty strong and demanding (not the SNL giggle and not saying work hard 1,000 times). President Bush laid out ambitious goals for the future, behind which all Americans can unite, and urged the Nation to move forward with the work that needs to be done this year:

Given the State of the Union's reputation for being long on policy and empty rhetoric and short on real analysis and solutions it begs the question, has the State of the Union address become more ceremony than substance? You'd think that with a President addressing a joint session of Congress before a nationally televised audience that this would be the stuff of high drama, but in reality it has become a carefully choreographed performance complete with predictable applause and symbolic guest who underscore the President's message. This is not a criticism of President Bush, but rather an observation on a political ritual that seems to have become meaningless. Political junkie that I am - I'll probably still watch it, though.

You know, they say that this is one of those "where were you" moments. And I can just barely remember. I was in first or second grade and the teachers had grouped some of the classes together to watch it. Being only 6 at the time I don't remember all the details but I do remember one of the teacher running to the t.v. to turn it off after the Challenger exploded. I also remember some of the other kids crying.

The crew of the space shuttle Challenger honored us by the manner in which they lived their lives. We will never forget them, nor the last time we saw them, this morning, as they prepared for their journey and waved good-bye and "slipped the surly bonds of earth" to "touch the face of God."

You know you really feel like pond scum when...you let your husband take the 3 kids to OK City for a gymnastics meet (overnight) and you stay behind. Usually nothing can keep me from my kiddos. But, when he insisted I stay home and rest (after I packed for everyone), I felt it the best option. He said "you've done this hotel and meet thing by yourself." I wish I could say I feel better since the doc says I most likely don't have cancer -but I still feel like crud. I went back to the first time I complained on my blog (I'm a yenta) that I was feeling sick - it was back in the 1st week of November. Same symptoms I have today - swollen glands, low back pain, fatigue, low grade fever... Now here is the tricky connection (maybe)...hubby was home from a vist from Lake Charles where he was working hurricane relief. He had been to some of the coastal parishes and of course brought me back his dirty laundry.

I joked with my neighbor that he probably carried home something and gave it to me. She called me today and asked me to check the dates of his visit - since this "unexplained" illness has been going on soooooo long.

Here is where you come in - see if you can find some type of connection. I am pretty sure my son has something similar - thought more mild than me. This is all too strange.

Owasso, my little piece of the Tulsa suburb pie, had a front page story about a sex offender in the local paper, The Owasso Reporter (no archives on-line). July of 2005 a 23 year old man named Alberto Farias was charged with sexual battery, his second offense. His other case was deferred for 3 years. If this isn't bad enough that he has been roaming the streets, he is an illegal alien. So now we have a registered sex offender who should be deported by INS living in a nice little suburb. He will serve 1 year in the county jail compliments of my tax dollars and be free to roam again. We should ALL have a problem with this. Unless, of course, you are with the ACLU and feel badly for this guy!

Sgt. Carl W. Lee, 23, died Sunday, November 28, 2004 in Ramadi, Iraq. His unit was conducting a dismounted patrol when it encountered enemy forces using small-arms fire.

Claudie Lee said she and the rest of the family hadn’t seen her oldest son, a 2000 graduate of Crooked Oak High School, since last Christmas.

“He had some close calls,” Claudie Lee said. “He said he didn’t know if he’d make it home, and he didn’t. We’re still not believing it’s true.”

Lee joined the Army after high school, but was expected to leave after his three-year commitment. Instead, he decided to make the military his career.

Rusty McMurtrey, Lee’s 21-year-old brother, credited his older sibling with saving his life. Lee helped him get away from gangs and also helped him with math in high school.

“He was the reason I graduated school and got as far as I did,” McMurtrey said through tears. “Since I can remember, Carl was the only one who’d been there for me.”

These brave men and women have given their lives so that others may enjoy the freedoms we get to enjoy everyday. For that, I am proud to call them Hero.

Just got back from my CT scan, bloodwork and the hematologist/oncologist. I have been feeling and looking much better the past few days (just a little tired). Today my blood was back to normal - WBC back up to 7.8 from 2.2 and everything else was fine. The CT scan was normal and gotta love that Berry flavored Barium (yum). The doc said it may have been some unexplained virus that started back in November when I thought I had meningitis. The doc left an open door to come in if anything arises again. Big relief. Thanks for all your well wishes and prayers!!! My readers are the best.

P.S. the gal who screwed up my CT scheduling so bad was fired this morning.

Vatican's Official Newspaper Calls Intelligent Design Unscientific

Last week, the Vatican's official newspaper weighed in on the intelligent design controversy. According to the New York Times, the article in the 16-17 January edition of L'Osservatore Romano essentially called intelligent design unscientific.

Fiorenzo Facchini, a professor of evolutionary biology at the University of Bologna stated, "If the model proposed by Darwin is not considered sufficient, one should search for another...But it is not correct from a methodological point of view to stray from the field of science while pretending to do science. It only creates confusion between the scientific plane and those that are philosophical or religious."

The article was published in support of a recent decision by a judge in Pennsylvania that rejects the teaching of intelligent design as a scientific alternative to evolution.

First off - I feel like Elaine from Seinfeld. I must have a profile at the doctors office. I didn't get the CT scan today because I am allergic to shellfish. I will get one tomorrow after I take a concoction of drugs tonight and tomorrow. The nurse made it a point to show me on my chart that I didn't write down that I had any food allergies - but she couldn't have asked me??? I take partial blame - but I was one pissed off camper! Drove straight to Starbucks for a morning jolt and then home to re-group and prepare for the CT scan tomorrow! He may be the best doctor in the world - but his support staff can kiss my little white ass!

As for the Aussie thing - I was invited to be a guest contributor on It's A Matter of Opinion. I even got my own welcome post. I can't really hang with this group of intellects - but they want a little "Greta" to mix things up for them and give them that Yankee humor and wit - I suppose!

She said that Democrats were largely responsible for much of the nation's progress in areas like civil rights and women's rights. Wasn't it a Republican president that freed the slaves with Democrats opposing it? After they were freed and Lincoln was assassinated, Andrew Johnson(D) became president. The man many consider to be the most racist president in history. He had actually owned a few slaves before becoming VP. The man he looked up to as a hero was Andrew Jackson. The great White Indian killer. The man who believed the white man owned the land and forced the Indian to leave their homes. Predominately five tribes. Cherokee, Creek, Chickasaw, Choctaw, and Seminole, the 5 Civilized Tribes. Which has become to be known as The Trails Of Tears, which caused the death of millions of Indians due to starvation and disease. Johnson believe that Blacks were savages and should just go back to working on the plantations. During this time it was the "radical Republicans" in Congress who believe that blacks should be protected, made U.S. citizens and given the right to vote. I guess we all know where Johnson stood on those. While Congress was in recess, Johnson welcomed the Southern states back into the union without giving any guarantees of protection to blacks. In 1865, the Freeman's Bureau was created to help freed slaves find new employment and to improve educational and health facilities. Johnson vetoed giving it more power to better protect former slaves. In fact, he vetoed 29 bills the Republican held Congress sent up to help protect freed slaves. In 1866 the Republican held Congress also passed the first Civil Rights bill, without President Johnson's help. After Johnson left office, Ulysses S. Grant(R) became president. During this time the south began to move back into the hands of the Democrats. Also during this time was when the Ku Klux Klan was started... by Southern Democrats. Republican Grant sent federal troops to the south and was able to effectively crush them. One way he was able to do this was by arresting members and holding them without trial. Sound familiar. Only to have them rise again later still under Democrat control. Then in the late 1870's, early 1880's, Democrats were able to grab the last two Republican held southern states which brought about the rise of segregation that didn't end until the late 1960's, when the south began to make the move back to the Right, when Lyndon Johnson(D) sighed the second Civil Rights bill with the help of the Republican controlled Congress after the Democrats opposed it.

Am I saying that the Republican party has a spotless history? By no means. We've had our share of racists and slave owners, but the Republican party has actually done more for civil rights than the Democrats have. So Mrs. Clinton can lie and fool herself into believing the Democratic party has a history of civil rights progress, and the media can choose to ignore her falsehood, but all the American people have to do is open a book to know the truth. And head over to DNC.org and see how much of this stuff they've left out. At least they got the history of the jackass as their symbol right.

On November 14, 2003 Army Maj. Mark Mitchell became the first man awarded the Distinguished Service Cross since the Vietnam War. Maj. Mitchell was the ground force commander of a rescue operation in Mazar-e-Sharif, Afghanistan in 2001 while assigned to the 3rd Battalion, 5th Special Forces Group.

The details of how the bloody battle started are still unconfirmed. However, most reports from eyewitnesses indicate that the three-day conflict erupted when an a Taliban enemy prisoner of war drew a grenade while being searched, pulled the pin and killed himself and a Northern Alliance commander.

The suicide attack triggered the uprising and an estimated 500 Taliban prisoners being held in Qala-I-Jangi, which means “House of War,” stormed two CIA agents working at the facility who were interviewing prisoners. Spann, one of ambushed agents, died at the prison and the other agent escaped.

Mitchell, 38, a Desert Storm veteran, heard of the attack when a Northern Alliance soldier rushed into a facility his unit was preparing for humanitarian workers and told him that he and his men were needed immediately at the prison.

Mitchell organized a team of 16 British and American soldiers and sped to the prison about 25 kilometers away.

When they arrived, Mitchell led his soldiers into battle against prisoners who had armed themselves with rocket-propelled grenades, mortars, machine guns, and rifles they collected from armories at the prison. Armed with a rifle and pistol, Mitchell, wearing no body armor and head protection, climbed to the highest point of the fortress to survey the battleground.

From that vantage point, Mitchell’s men began to call in air strikes on the Taliban. Later that evening, Mitchell and his men withdrew from the prison to plan the next day’s operations.

The following morning, Mitchell’s men returned to the fortress and were greeted by a barrage of gunfire. Mitchell and his unit requested more air support, but misfortune struck when a bomb fell near Mitchell’s team injuring nine of his soldiers.

I usually never watch the Golden Globes or anything similar. Unless it involves conservative talk show hosts, Disney movies or reality crap - I am oblivious. As the nasty bitch in most women like to come out and criticize those that have "made it," I applaud Go Fug Yourself once again for reminding me why I love these Red Carpet events! I love Joan Rivers and Melissa - but this is sooooo much better with Fug Culture talk!

Forgive me more this rant ahead of time. I am being pleasant to everyone around me - so whoever reads this - gets my bitching.

What the hell is wrong with people - you work for an oncologist - time is of the damn essence - comprende? Don't tell me you didn't see my referral and then later call me to make me sound like a moron because it was in a pile you forgot to look at!
My soon to be ex-primary care doc had his 20 year old nurse asst. call me on the phone for the SECOND TIME to tell me the doctor says my blood work came out just fine and I don't have leukemia. Well guess what - it wasn't fine the first time or second time you called - MORON!!!
I've lost about 5 pounds in the past week - I have no appetite, coffee isn't even cutting it and lets not even go with the lovely bodily functions. However, those were the 5 pounds I have been trying to lose for 5 years - so good riddance to them. I have about 5 more to go - so I hope I don't find a cure until I reach my goal!
I am not in the mood for politics the past few days - just humor. Don't make me go to the Alito hearings and bitch slap everyone that pisses me off!!!
I'm in a pissy mood and guess who is coming to help me when hubby goes on a fishing trip - my mom. Love her to death, but already laid the ground rules on "unsolicited advice"
