    1 More Day...Spread the Word

Russian Children for Adoption (in Tulsa now)
My friend Sherry is currently working hard to find homes for some Russian Orphans who are visiting Tulsa. They will be here until next Tuesday. If you or anyone you know is interested in adopting a child or meeting them before they head back...The opportunity is there.

http://www.foundationfororphans.org/ has their pictures & profiles. There will be more arriving in September & your help is needed as host families & to get the word out.

    http://www.wliaa.org/older-child-adoption/

World Links is a licensed, non profit agency working in Eastern Europe since 1998. To date we have brought nearly 600 orphan children to host families in the USA with a 97% successful adoption rate. Our host programs now run all year long however school age children may only travel during holiday from school. In order to host, all adult member of the family must have criminal background checks as well as child abuse clearances available from your local police dept. An FBI check is also needed for a cost of $18. We supply instructions on how to apply for this. Finally a brief home safety check by a licensed social worker is needed. We supply this checklist for the social worker.

The children arrive to JFK airport in New York. If a group is arriving to your area it is possible to send the children with an escort. If only one or two families will be hosting we ask that a parent will fly to NY to collect the children and return them to our staff at the conclusion of the program.

All children have had a medical exam to secure good health status. They have had blood tests for HIV, Hepatitis as well as a TB test. They have a passport and visa as well as medical insurance while here in the USA.

World Links has a budget to cover 60% of these costs. We ask that the host family contribute $1,500 to the cost of bringing the child for the host program. A reduced fee is available for siblings. Hosting is not an obligation to adopt. The children have the understanding that this is a holiday. During the host period World Links will screen possible adoptive families to meet the child if a family will be a host only family. At the end of the 3 weeks all children will return to Russia. Families may then may file to adopt the host child. The approx. cost to adopt a host child is $25,000. Bear in mind there is a 10,000 tax refund available for families with an income under $154,000.See the IRS web site for more information on this refund. For questions please refer to the World Links web site or call the office at 570-344-8890. You may also reach Laureen Dempsey at home 570-586-7659. Children for the July program are still unmatched and future late summer and fall programs are planned if families can be identified.

    1. Russian adoption topic of meeting7/26/2005The problem of overcrowded Russian orphanages has a face in Tulsa.
    2. Russian to adopt7/24/2005Brothers Ivan and Dmitry didn't know how to react when they were tucked into bed on the first night they spent in Tulsa. The Russian orphanage where they live has too many children to afford such attention.

"To Retire or Not to Retire...That is the Question"
A year or 2 more, another move, a civilian job? His whole adult life and my whole married life (11 years Wednesday) has been revolved around the military. I wouldn't trade a move, a deployment or an experience - good or bad! What if he goes back to the sandbox? Well if he has to, he will & we will be here waiting. My mother (the liberal anti-Iraq mom) wants him OUT now. Negative, negative, negative is all I have to say. Decisions, decisions, decisions...

If and when he retires, can I still keep my blogging title as "Hooah Wife?"

    Willie Wonka on Crack
Went to the drive-ins with the family last night to see Wonka. With Tim Burton directing I knew it would be bizarre. However, I was expecting so much more special effects from this movie. All I can say is, this movie sucked, the old one is way better!!!

Sent mom on the plane with my oldest yesterday. He will get a taste of Boston for the week. It will be great for him. I look forward to him combating any negative military stuff he hears. Love my mom to death, but during a 3 day visit, I could not stand her anti-Bush comments.

    1. We need to get out of Iraq now - that is why London got bombed and the bombings in Iraq continue.

    2. Bush is personally responsible for the high cost of her prescriptions (not Congress).

    Camaraderie
Eight houses in my cul-de-sac/street and I don't even know everyone's last names nor have I been in more than a few houses. Not quite like a military community - I do miss that a lot! I am sure I rocked the boat with my neighbors tonight - this is the letter they got.

Greetings neighbors! I think our neighborhood has finally settled and a few thoughts have crossed my mind (not too many).
    1. We do not know everyone's last name
    2. We do not have all of each other's phone numbers
    3. What ifs...

What I mean by number 3 is:
What if a strange car came to your house and robbed you? (happened to me when I lived in Texas & I was home with the kids. My neighbors got cleaned out)
What if your garage door is open could anyone contact you?
If a moving truck backed up to your house & took all your furniture would anybody even question them?

My point is... whether or not you like to socialize is not the issue we are all neighbors and need to look out for one another. Dan (on our cul-de-sac) looked out for me a ton when Brett was deployed this year thanks!

Not too long ago I called an ambulance because my son took a bad spill, they drove by our street twice because we don't have a street sign. Heather (the new house) drove across town and beat the ambulance (thanks Heather)! How can we join forces to get one?

Our block party is scheduled for September 10th. We will have a bike decorating contest for the kids & everyone can eat dinner in the street as we will get barriers. More details to come.
I would like to do a roster to be shared among the neighbors – if you want to participate please answer a few of these questions and drop it in my mailbox or e-mail me..
    Names of grown-ups
    Names & ages of children
    Address
    Telephone numbers
    E-mail
Cars that should be at your house
    Medical conditions
    Pets description & names
Little known fact of little interest (or some interest) about each adult. If you don't include this one I will make something up.

    Thanks,

    Greta Perry

    Renewed Faith
First off - I may have bought myself a few more years on this planet as I actually took myself & the kiddos to Synagogue this weekend (hubby out of town). (It was a kids service & was up their alley (for the most part), singing, dancing, music, story, a toy & snacks. What more could kids want? My eyebrow singed as I enterd the Temple (hehe).

Secondly - Drive-ins are still good , fun, cheap family entertainment! Took the kiddos to see the Fantastic 4 & they LOVED it! The movie was good, but the whole atmosphere of the drive-in, sit outside your car thing - really made it. They asked what all the poles & wires were for. I explained to them about the old speaker boxes & how my mom always forgot to remove them.

    Coach Of The Year
Can you believe this dirtball coach from the great state of PA (sorry Terri) paid a player $25 to hit a disabled kid with a baseball before the game - just so he wouldn't have to play him!

My punishment - let the kids parents throw balls at his head, criminal assault charges and consider this assault against a minor. I know, I don't know a thing about law. Give this coach to Judge Judy would you?

    Sponge Bob isn't a Fruit
See... all these wacko moonbats were worried that SB was a fruit - now he is pitching fruits and vegetables. I tell you if it works - I am 100% for it. I am already taunted by my "products of television" to buy anything that has a familiar face on it. My middle child, Scott, is so proud that he has so far avoided all vegetables. If this works - I will personally kiss SB

    Reality Junkie
I admit it, I need help - I am officially a Reality Show addict. Why will I waste my time watching this crap when there is so much other crap that is even worse on TV? Why do I waste my time watching TV at all? Because once in a while I need to appease my juvenile side and sit there without a thought in my head. Yes, I can do that while watching the sad doped up plastic supermodel fawn over Jose "Roidseco" on Surreal life. I even watched Bruce Jenner's bio children (21 & 23) show the world what clueless spoiled asses with a Barbie mom look like in the Princes of Bel Aire. Maybe I should get off my ass and read a book tonight - depends if there is any mindless television on...

    That Must Be So Difficult
Met some other moms at the lake today. How long have you lived here, do you stay home, what does your husband do ...yada yada yada? They were real nice and we even exchanged numbers. Funny, how on a typical day at the lake, the attentionn quickly focuses onto our lives and what my husband and all the other soldiers do! They both thanked me for his and my families sacrifice - I was very touched.
Q: Has he gone over there?
A: Yes, I said, he came back a few months ago.
Q: How long was he gone?
A: Only 5 months I added. We were very fortunate as many go for a year or 18 months.
Q: Were you nervous and was it difficult?
A: Yes, but that is part of our lives!
A: He looks Army (giggle from me)

    Out of Gas

This is our new boat in the rear on Tablerock Lake. Hubby (standing) & a friend are being towed to the Marina to get gas. I had to call for help as the trolling motor wouldn't get them too far. Good thing they had beer to pass the time!

    My first born is 9!
I guess I am feeling a little bit older today as my first baby is another year older. Time does fly - I know - cliche. So, I guess I have to dedicate this post to a child I am so proud of (are you ready to gag yet)? Moms love to talk about their wonderful children & bore you with all the stuff you don't care about -- so too bad - if you don't want to hear about it -leave & come back tomorrow!

Drew was born during hurricane Bertha in Melbourne, Florida. We actually had to evacuate our house which meant hubby had to go get the little furballs (cats) & drive them inland to a dropoff point with family while I stayed with the little guy who was a maconium baby. Meaning - he swallowed his own dang poop before he made it onto this planet!

I think he came out talking (can't imagine where he gets that) and walked way too early (10 months). Problem was, he never walked - he only ran!!! He is a joy and a challenge at the same time. He is WAY too smart for his own good and has been hitting a pitched ball since the age of 2. He was always big for his age, which made people treat him older than he was.

He has a wonderful sense of humor and loves reading anything that comes in front of him (Calvin & Hobbes, Garfield, Simpsons, Far Side the most). As far as his future here are my predictions:

    1. Sports - he doesn't have the drive but has the natural ability - once he notices that girls love athletes - I feel we will have a superstar on our hands!

    2. Academics - Never a problem with this one - he will continue to love school!

    3. Looks - he got the best of his mom & dad - so what else can we say? I expect he'll be bigger than 90% of his mom's family with a year!

    4. Socially - he'll never be an outcast or alone - as a matter of fact in about 2 minutes he could divulge any family secret as well as know the name of the strangers first pet.

    5. Career- if he keeps skeletons from rattling in his closet - we have a politician on our hands. You bet your ass - he will be Republican!

    Bull Shark
Visited the aquarium today with the rats. The only bull sharks in captivity in the world - 1 male & 1 possibly pregnant female. The other female committed suicide last year by jumping out of the tank - she was tired of the male chasing her around! Can't say I blame her, esp. if she wasn't interested in his advances. I am so glad I amuse myself!

    Middle Life Fork
Well, the Perrys have come to a little fork in the road of their lives.

Greta - a 37 year old with 3 small kids, a teaching degree & athletic trainer who has a latex allergy now & probably can never return to that line of work. She is 6 months into a business she started with 2 friends & hopes it pans out. She has great partners & they compliment each other nicely.

Brett a 42 year old West Point Graduate and service member for 20 years. He is able to retire at any point & probably needs to get out sooner than later unless he wishes to return to the sandbox.

We have the big house, 2 cars, boat... now what? UGH!!!! I hate indecision. My life has been decided by the Army so far - maybe we need control of it ourselves.
